The Odeon of Herodes Atticus -- Performances in a Classical Setting

The Odeon of Herodes Atticus was built in 161 AD by the Athenian magnate Herodes Atticus as a memorial to his wife. It was restored in the 1950s and has hosted performances by the Athens and Epidaurus Festival every summer since. The programme includes opera, classical music, dance, and theatrical performances -- many of which are international premieres. The setting, at the foot of the Acropolis with the illuminated rock above, is exceptional.
